Tea and Teen Talk at Crittenton’s Annual Event in Silver Spring

Local teens will have the opportunity to sit down with mentors and role models to talk about the challenges they face and hear a few tips for their future.

The conversation is scheduled to take place on April 23 at the Silver Spring Civic Building during Crittenton’s annual event.

According to Pamela Jones, president and CEO of Crittenton Services of Greater Washington, the girls are going to ask adults questions about where did they go to college, how they stay focused on their goals; what is the best career advice they have received, among others.

“The girls are going to ask the adults to speak up for girls. … These great men and women in the audience are here to listen to these girls,” Jones said.

The event’s keynote speaker is First Lady of Montgomery County Catherine Leggett.

There will be five girls and five mentors in each table. Among the mentors are Karen Callender, director of ACES Program at Montgomery College; Rebecca Smondrowski, MCPS Board of Education member; Laurie Edberg, Special Assistant to the Senator Barbara Mikulski, among others.

Crittenton is a Silver Spring nonprofit that works through its after-school programs to empower teens to make positive choices to stay in school, apply to college and avoid teen pregnancy.
