Taxi Driver Robbed in Takoma Park

Takoma Park police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Thursday morning, according to a department Facebook post.

About 4:55 a.m. a taxi driver was waiting to pick up a fare when three men, all wearing dark clothing, surrounded the cab, police said.

One of the men pointed a gun at the driver and demanded property, police said.

When the cab driver exited the vehicle, he was struck in the face by the robber, police said.

Property was forcibly taken and the robber ran toward Tulip Avenue, police said.

A second man went into the vehicle and stole property and then ran down Eastern Avenue, police said.

Takoma Park police notified other jurisdictions. Police K9’s were called; they were unsuccessful. Police said the driver was not seriously injured.
