Tammy Darvish Named County Philanthropist of the Year
Darcars Automotive Group Vice President Tammy Darvish has been named the Montgomery County Philanthropist of the Year.
She will receive the award tonight at the county’s Annual Celebration of Giving event taking place at the AFI Silver Theatre & Fillmore in Silver Spring. Darvish is recognized for her efforts to support many causes, including homelessness.
Since 2011, Darvish has volunteered to serve as the honorary co-chair and co-emcee of Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH) annual fundraising Celebrating Partnerships gala, an event that helps MCCH raise funds for their programs. Darvish’s involvement in the event has helped MCCH raise substantial funds to further MCCH’s mission to provide solutions to end homelessness in Montgomery County. Darvish sponsored the event through Darcars.
Last year, she donated all of the table centerpieces for the event, gave a Darcars gift card and other prizes for the raffle, and she brought her staff, friends, and family members to the gala. In 2012, Darvish made a personal commitment to maximize donation pledges at the event, and she was successful in inspiring attendees to make event donations that totaled almost five times as much as the previous year’s night of gala donations.
“As a resident of Montgomery County, Tammy cares very deeply about the issue of homelessness, and she shares MCCH’s focus on ending homelessness in Montgomery County by helping people secure permanent housing,” says MCCH Executive Director Susie Sinclair-Smith. “Tammy has demonstrated her commitment to this important community issue by giving her time, money, and expertise to benefit Montgomery County residents who are experiencing homelessness.”
