Takoma Park Woman Places Third in CBS’ Big Brother

Azah Awasum from Takoma Park was the final houseguest to join the jury during the season finale of Big Brother on Wednesday.

During the season, Awasum competed against 15 other houseguests for a prize of $750 thousand which is the largest cash prize in the history of the show, now in its 23rd season. She was also part of the history-making “cookout” alliance that not only secured the final six spots for the season but also guaranteed that a person of color would win – a first on Big Brother.

After her eviction, Awasum spoke with the show’s host Julie Chen Moonves and reflected on her journey this season.

“I’m still processing, it’s a lot to take in, but I just really honestly thank God for this opportunity. I tried as best I could to represent him and I know that I messed up in a lot of ways, but there’s a reason why he picked some girl from Takoma Park, Maryland to come in this house,” Awasum said. “I was wondering what the purpose was and in this final time, I can still see there’s a reason for everything so I’m so thankful. I can’t wait to see my parents, I can’t wait to go back home and I’m ready to, you know, move on to the next part of life.”

The finale and all other episodes of season 23 can be watched on the CBS website.
