Takoma Park Police Chief Antonio DeVaul has appointed Reverend Dr. Gayle Fisher-Stewart as the new police chaplain for the Takoma Park police department.

The role of the chaplain is to provide counseling support to department staff, according to Catherine Plevy, spokesperson for the police department.

Stewart currently serves as the assistant pastor at Calvary Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.  Prior to ministry, she retired from the Metropolitan Police Department as a captain.

According to Plevy, the chaplain position with the police department is a volunteer position and religion does not impact the role.
