Takoma Park Police Charge D.C. Woman with Second-Degree Murder

A 23-year-old Washington, D.C., woman has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault  and malicious destruction of property in connection with a knife-throwing incident in Takoma Park, city police said.

Oluwafunmi Gbolade was being held in the District but has waived extradition, according to online D.C. court records.

According to a statement from Takoma Park police, officers responded to a dispute about 12:30 a.m. Monday between a man and a woman. Police said a caller recalled seeing a woman throw a knife and flee.

When officers arrived, the man said the fleeing female tried to cut his throat with a knife, police said. During the investigation, officers learned that the woman was known only by a nickname, police said.

Fire and rescue arrived on the scene; the knife wound was nonlife-threatening and the victim refused to be taken to a hospital, police said.  The knife was retrieved by officers.

A canvass of the area led to the apartment where the woman lived and the victim identified her, as Gbolade, police said. She was arrested and transported to the DC Jail, police said. A warrant for her arrest by Takoma Park was granted.

Online court records say her lawyer is Betty M. Ballester. A call to her office was not returned.
