Takoma Park Police Captain Selected as Greenbelt’s New Police Chief
After serving more than 20 years with the Takoma Park Police, Capt. Richard “Rick” Bowers is leaving Takoma Park to oversee the City of Greenbelt’s Police Department as the new police chief. He was selected from a pool of 53 applicants spearheaded by Springsted/Waters Executive Recruitment Firm.
Bowers started his career as an officer in Ocean City before moving to Takoma Park where he worked his way up through the ranks as sergeant then acting chief.
“It is incredible to have a leader of Chief Bowers’ caliber,” said Nicole Ard, Greenbelt’s City Manager. “Rick brings a unique energy and experience in strategic planning, community engagement, employee development, and modern crime reduction technology.”
Bowers will begin with the City of Greenbelt the last week in August, according to a news release. A swearing in Ceremony will be held on Aug. 27 at the Greenbelt Municipal Building.
