
Takoma Park Places Third in Energy Reduction Competition
The City of Takoma Park, Maryland ranked third place in the final round of Georgetown University Energy Prize (GUEP) competition.
GUEP is a two-year competition nationwide that evaluates how communities utilize energy.
In the final round, 10 top performing cities and counties were evaluated by a panel of judges on their energy-saving approach, performance, and prospects for nationwide replicability and scalability, according to a news release.
The winner was selected based on a combination of energy performance scores which included the creation of new best practices over two years.
During the competition, Takoma Park saved almost 101 billion BTUs of energy, and reduced carbon emissions by 5,364 metric tons.
The city of Bellingham, Washington, tied for third with Takoma Park.
