A West Riding resident who lives on Keystone Drive in Gaithersburg woke up on June 20 and discovered a black bear in her backyard.  Jean Withee tells us what happened in this video clip.

Ken D’Loughy of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources has received about a dozen reports of bear sightings in the Gaithersburg/Germantown area this week. We talked to him on June 20, shortly after the bear was videotaped on a Gaithersburg homeowner’s deck, and he described the bear as a yearling. Take a look:

UPDATED 6/21 The latest sighting of the black bear occurred at 8:30 p.m. on June 20 on Travillah Terrace near River Road, according to Ken D’Loughy of DNR. The report was called in by Montgomery County police. D’Loughy said this is good news because it means the bear is moving west towards his natural habitat. […]

Bear sightings are on the rise in Montgomery County this week. A black bear has been spotted in Gaithersburg and Germantown.
