Sweet Home Café Dishes Up A People’s Culinary History (VIDEO)

Visitors taking in the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC) will journey through culinary history at the Sweet Home Café. The 400-seat facility inside the new museum tells stories about the experiences of black people in this nation through the dishes and decor. MyMCMedia’s Phyllis Armstrong introduces us to the new executive chef and to a Rockville resident with a special connection to the café.

Celebrity chef Carla Hall serves as a culinary ambassador for Sweet Home Café. Jerome Grant ran day-to-day operations at the National Museum of the American Indian’s Mitsitam Café before taking on his new responsibilities at NMAAHC. He is a member of the Restaurant Associates team that formed a joint venture with the Smithsonian and Thompson Hospitality to provide the museum’s dining experience. Chef Grant says using local growers and products from African-American food producers will be a priority for the café.
