Suspect in Silver Spring Bank Robbery Attempt Shot and Killed

It all started at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday when police responded to the BB&T Bank on the 1100 block of Wayne Avenue in downtown Silver Spring. Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti with Montgomery County Police says they believe the suspect entered the bank and demanded money. Officials say the suspect mentioned that he had a bomb in a book bag, and he displayed a handgun.

Shortly after that, bank staff alerted police who then located the male suspect in an alley behind the building. Officials say that’s when a confrontation happened. During that confrontation, the suspect was shot by an officer and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries according to officials.

Police say explosive investigators examined the suspect’s book bag to make sure everything was safe. This is an ongoing investigation, and police say they do not believe there are any additional suspects.
