Suspect Charged in Takoma Park Murder

Eric Alton Andrews of Hyattsville was arrested and charged with first and second degree murder in connection with an assault in Takoma Park on July 7.

According to the Takoma Park Police Department, at 12:20 a.m. on July 7, police responded to the 8300 block of Flower Branch Avenue for an assault in progress. When officers arrived, they found an adult male lying on the ground. He was later identified as Michael Lavon Woods, 44, of Hyattsville.

Woods was unresponsive, and police performed life saving measures until fire and rescue personnel arrived. They also worked on the victim, who succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to police.

Andrews, 41, was identified as a suspect, and the officer located and arrested him July 8.

“This was not a random act and there is no threat to public safety,” police said, adding the investigation is ongoing.

As of the morning of July 8, no court records were available.
