Summit Gives Building Owners Information on Saving Energy
About 300 people and 20 vendors took in the Montgomery County Energy Summit in Silver Spring on Wednesday.
The event was co-hosted by the county’s Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Green Building Council.
“Retrofitting an existing building is much more difficult than building green to start,” said Lindsey Shaw, with the county’s Department of Environmental Protection. “We do have a lot of existing infrastructure in the county that really could be improved. Events like this are great ways for those existing building owners to come in and learn what they can do to improve their existing building operations.”
Mark Bryan, director of national capital community of the U.S. Green Building Council, said lower building emissions and sustainability and be good for business for commercial building owners.
“If you’re trying to attract new tenants, startup companies, tech companies a lot of these companies pay a lot of attention to the sustainability features of a building. So it makes your building more marketable and more attractive to the tenants in the area,” Bryan said.
