Study of Woodmont Avenue Underway for Pedestrian Safety
Jut how safe it is to walk along Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda?
A group of researchers are taking a look today and Thursday.
An audit group is taking a walk down Woodmont Avenue to see how safe it is to be a pedestrian there.
The pedestrian safety audit includes Woodmont Avenue between Old Georgetown Road and Battery Lane.
The audit will be conducted by representatives from the county Department of Transportation and STV, a firm that provides engineering and architectural consulting and design services.
The audit will be conducted in phases: during morning hours, at mid-day, and evening. The audit group will walk Woodmont Avenue to determine what may affect pedestrian safety, such as crosswalks, sidewalks and obstacles that prevent drivers from seeing pedestrians clearly.
The audit group will submit a formal report of its findings and recommendations to the county. After reviewing the report, the county will issue a public document spelling out what changes it will implement to improve pedestrian safety along the audited stretch of Woodmont Avenue.
