Student Discovers Swastika in Bathroom at Bannockburn Elementary School

Kate Bradley, the principal of Bannockburn Elementary School in Bethesda, emailed parents Wednesday about a swastika and curse word found drawn inside a boys bathroom stall.
According to Bradley, the “a 5th grade patrol” officer discovered the expletive and antisemitic symbol Tuesday in the bathroom located in Green Hallway, which is primarily for 4th and 5th-grade students.
The principal confirmed that the graffiti has been removed, but it’s unclear how many students besides the patrol officer saw it.
“This behavior does not reflect the values of our school and will not be tolerated. We are committed to providing a welcoming learning environment for our students,” said Bradley.
Because of this act of antisemitism, Bradley said that the school staff and faculty will now check the bathrooms every hour to prevent an incident like this from repeating. Additionally, Bradley said that students are now required to sign out of their classrooms if they want to use the bathroom.
“Our entire staff is committed to promoting positive behaviors that we expect from our student body and community,” said Bradley.
This is now the fifth known act of hate at a Montgomery County Public School since December.
