Street Beat: Wisconsin Avenue Resurfacing Project in Bethesda
If you are one of the 45,000 commuters who drive Maryland 355 daily in the Bethesda area, you may want to know that beginning Sunday night, July 13, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface Maryland 355 (Wisconsin Avenue) from Bradley Lane to Maryland 187 (Old Georgetown Road).
As part of the road project, SHA will remove the top layer of pavement, patch, and resurface all traffic lanes and apply new pavement markings to the roadway. The project replaces deteriorated pavement in this section of Maryland 355. SHA’s contractor for the work is the Ardent Company of McLean, Va.
During resurfacing, crews may close up to two lanes of MD 355, overnight, Sunday through Thursday, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Residents and travelers are advised that equipment used for construction can be loud and disruptive.
So far, crews have completed median work and utility relocations for traffic signal upgrades within the project limits. In addition to resurfacing, crews will pour and set concrete foundations for traffic signal poles, construct sidewalks and sidewalk ramps for Americans with Disability (ADA) compliance. Crews may close one lane in both directions of MD 355 to complete this work, weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Pedestrians are reminded to stay alert.
This $2.5 million project began last summer. SHA officials said the project should be complete by late fall.
