Street Beat: Road Resurfacing on ICC Project

road construction 450 x 280 for sliderTonight (Aug. 19), the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin several nights of multiple lane closures on northbound I-95 between the MD 200 (Intercounty Connector (ICC) interchange to just north of MD 198 (Sandy Spring Road).

The temporary closures are necessary for milling (removing the top layer of asphalt) and paving. Crews expect to perform these nighttime lane closures through Wednesday night, August 27, weather permitting. This resurfacing work is part of the last segment of the ICC project and will repair the deteriorating pavement.

Crews will close one lane of traffic on northbound I-95 beginning at 8 p.m. tonight followed by double lane closures starting at 11 p.m. to remove traffic barriers.

Beginning tomorrow night Wednesday, August 20 through Wednesday, August 27, crews will begin single lane closures at 8 p.m. and triple lane closures at 11 p.m., weather dependent. All lanes of traffic will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning. Multiple nights of lane closures are necessary for crews to mill and pave each lane of traffic and the shoulders of northbound I-95.

Traffic will have full access to ramps throughout the duration of this work; however motorists should expect delays. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and consider the Baltimore/Washington Parkway, US 1 or US 29 as alternate routes.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speeds and be attentive as they drive through the work zone. For more information about the project, please call the ICC Community Outreach staff at 1.866.462-.0020, or visit the ICC project website at www.iccproject.com.
