Street Beat: Lane Closures in Rockville for WSSC Work
As part of its infrastructure renewal program, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) crews are replacing an aging water main along Veirs Mill Road in Rockville. The work will require some lane closures over the next few months.
The majority of the lane closures will occur at night during the month of August, but there will be a need for some additional lane closures during the day and at night between September and December.
The first of the lane closures will begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 3. All lane closures on Veirs Mill Road will be between Randolph Road and Robindale Drive. When lanes are closed at night they will reopen by 5 a.m.
Two electronic signs have been posted on Veirs Mill Road to notify drivers of the upcoming work.
WSSC is replacing a one-mile stretch of a 24-inch water main along Veirs Mill Road as well as numerous valves. The original pipe is 58 years old. The project began in April 2013 and is expected to be finished in December 2014, weather permitting.
