Street Beat: Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road Intersection Closure Planned for Saturday in Glenmont

PHOTO | Maryland State Highway Administration

Commuter taks note: the intersection at Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road will be closed temporarily on Saturday while crews from the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) reconfigure traffic lanes. The work is part of the project to convert the intersection into an interchange by lowering Randolph Road 25 feet so it may pass underneath Georgia Avenue.

Beginning at 6 a.m. on April 1st, Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with no turns permitted. Crews will temporarily stop all lanes of traffic while exiting traffic signals are relocated. The full closures should not last longer than 15 minutes, according to a news release.

The new lane reconfiguration will create a median work zone for the project. Crews will also relocate traffic signals, move concrete traffic barrier, test and activate traffic signals, resurface the roadway and apply new pavement markings to correspond with new lane configurations.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times during the work.

Crews anticipate opening all lanes by 7 p.m., weather and progress permitting.
