Strathmore Mansion Art Exhibits

Two new art exhibits at the Strathmore Mansion galleries are open to the public from now through March 2. The opening reception for both is Jan. 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. The exhibits are “What’s Up: New Technologies in Art” and “Art-Craft-Art.” The Mansion is located at 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda. Parking is free in the Mansion lot.

New Technologies in Art exhibit pieces span the gamut from cutting-edge technology applied to programmer Scott Draves’ genetic pool of “Electric Sheep” and Floating Point consortium’s interactive virtual installation “LanScapes,” to those that utilize industrial practices in new ways, such as the painstakingly precise machinist sculptures of Chris Bathgate and the beguiling glasswork of Joseph Corcoran. Also featured are unconventional thinkers who challenge the viewer experience, including R. Luke DuBois’ abstraction of cinematic smooches; Gretchen Schermerhorn’s conversion of the spoken word to striking visual art; the video art of George Terry honoring his mentor Rockne Krebs, and the humanoid tape sculptures of Bryan Sullivan. This exhibit is paired with a smaller, concurrent artist showcase in the Invitational Gallery, Art—Craft—Art.
