Strathmore Artist in Residence Concert Series

Artists in Residence (AIR) concerts in the Mansion begin Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. with mentor Cathy Fink featuring Brad Kolodner and Amadou Kouyate. All AIR concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $17 for the general public. In its ninth season, Strathmore’s AIR education program touches more musical genres than ever before featuring West African Manding Diali percussionist Amadou Kouyate, old time banjo player Brad Kolodner, jazz vocalist and former Afro-Blue member Christie Dashiell, saxophonist and Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra frontman Elijah Jamal Balbed, Hindustani violinist Nistha Raj and Russian American classical guitarist Piotr Pakhomkin. Each AIR is a featured performer in the Mansion at Strathmore for one month. The program also includes mentors folk musician and producer Cathy Fink, bandleader and jazz trumpeter Graham Breedlove, and conductor and internationally reputed music educator James Ross.

Founded in 2005, Strathmore’s AIR program cultivates musical talent in the Washington, D.C. area by helping emerging talents hone their craft and business acumen through performance, composition, teaching, professional development and networking opportunities. Each AIR is a featured performer in the Mansion at Strathmore for one month, during which they perform four times. The experience culminates in the premiere of a new work commissioned by Strathmore. Participants also create and implement outreach activities at local schools. AIR graduates include Grammy nominated hip hop artist Christylez Bacon, urban jazz harmonicist Frédéric Yonnet, Laura Burhenn of the Mynabirds, jazz singer Lena Seikaly and charming vocal duo The Sweater Set.

All performances are held in the Mansion at Strathmore, 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda. Parking is free in the Mansion lot on a space available basis. Enter the Mansion lot at 10701 Rockville Pike.
