Storm Drain Project at Aspen Hill Library (PHOTO)

aspenhillstormdrainA joint pilot project of the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Rock Creek Conservancy is using art to inform Aspen Hill Library visitors about the impact their actions have on local waterways.

Stream Steward volunteers painted three storm drain covers depicting wildlife and positive environmental messages. The storm drains were painted to help residents make the connection that litter and pet waste placed in storm drains or washed into them end up in Rock Creek. DEP hopes that everyone will understand it is their responsibility to help protect local rivers and streams.

Those interested in volunteering to become a Stream Steward can email stream.stewards@montgomerycountymd.gov.
