Step Xplosion at Strathmore Pays Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. (VIDEO)

Washington, D.C. based professional dance company Step Afrika!, presents Step Xplosion Sunday, January 18 at 4 p.m. The performances by six teams celebrates the tradition of stepping. Tickets start at $25 and are available by phone at 301.581.5100 or online at Strathmore website.

Step Afrika! is the world’s first professional company dedicated to the percussive dance tradition of stepping. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Join a pre-performance panel discussion at 2:30 p.m., moderated by Janice Ferebee (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.), on the Divine Nine and the origin and emergence of step at American historically black colleges and universities. The panel will explore the intertwined histories of African-American Greek organizations and step dance.
