Statewide Gun Turn in Day on May 11

On May 11, Montgomery County law enforcement and public safety officials will join other law enforcement agencies across the state in the Maryland Attorney General’s First Annual Statewide Gun Turn-In Day, where anyone can voluntarily and safely turn in unwanted handguns, rifles, shotguns, air guns or ammunition. There will be no questions asked and no appointments or personal identification will be required.

The gun turn in locations (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.) in Montgomery County are:

—Public Safety Headquarters – 100 Edison Park Drive, Gaithersburg
—Montgomery County Fairgrounds – 16 Chestnut Street, Gaithersburg
—East County Regional Services Center – 3300 Briggs Chaney Road, Silver Spring

Individuals turning in guns should unload them and transport them in the trunk of their vehicle. Those turning in guns will be met at their vehicle by a law enforcement officer, who will provide detailed instructions.

Organizers of the event will make a donation for each gun turned in to the University of Maryland Medical Center’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

This event is co-sponsored by the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Montgomery County Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Gaithersburg Police Department, Rockville City Police Department, University of Maryland Shock Trauma, the Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission and the Victims’ Rights Foundation.
