State Highway Crews to Close Two Lanes of Outer Loop of I-495 Tonight
Beginning tonight and continuing Sundays through Thursdays until work is complete, Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) crews are scheduled to temporarily close two lanes on the outer loop of I-495 Bridge over MacArthur Boulevard in Montgomery County.
SHA’s contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Gaithersburg, is working to replace bridge expansion joints. Weather permitting the work should be complete by the first week of April.
At 9 p.m. each night, crews are expected to close one left lane, then two lanes at 10 p.m. All lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. As work progresses on the $100,000 repair project, crews plan to work on the two right lanes to complete all outer loop repairs.
Once all work is complete on the outer loop, crews are slated to begin work on the inner loop of I-495. Overnight travelers planning to cross into Virginia should plan extra travel time and consider taking I-95 south over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. SHA crews will use arrow boards and barrels to guide motorists through the work zone.
