“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Pre-sale Boosts County Theater Ticket Sales
After months of waiting, Star Wars fans were finally able to start purchasing advanced tickets to Star Wars: The Force Awakens from theater chains on Monday. However, ticket purchasers ran into some trouble at first, the sudden surge of users on sites caused server outages for AMC Theaters and Fandango. Despite the crash, Fandango set a record for tickets sold.
Local theaters, right here in Montgomery County, are also experiencing the rush of Star Wars fever. The force is especially strong with AMC Lowes Rio Cinemas 18 in Gaithersburg. Theater Manager Joanna Faircloth says that multiple show times have already sold-out and that many patrons have trekked out to the theater to buy and inquire about tickets. Faircloth says that demand is “extremely high,” the greatest she’s seen in her 10-years working for AMC Lowes.
The Arclight and iPic theaters in Bethesda are also experiencing high demand. Seating for December 17th show times are sold-out or close to being sold-out, especially for 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. time slots.
Meanwhile, Paragon Theaters in Kentlands ran into some technical difficulties according to Trevor Hintz, a coordinator at the theater. So, seating for all show times are still available at that location.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be officially released on December 18th. To find a complete list of show times for theaters in Montgomery County you can visit the Fandango website. You can also view the movie trailer below.
