Springbrook High Student Arrested For Bringing Unloaded Handgun to School, Police Say

A 17-year-old from Silver Spring was arrested and charged for possessing of an unloaded handgun on school property, according to police.

Police say the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 10 a.m. at Springbrook High School. That morning, administrative staff and security personnel received a tip about the incident. Therefore, they notified the School Resource Officer (SRO).

Authorities say the SRO found an “unloaded .40 caliber handgun and an empty magazine” in Solomon Henderson’s gym bag. As a result, police arrested Henderson and brought him to the Central Processing Unit.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Firearms Investigations Unit are charging Henderson as an adult. Police indicated that bond information is unavailable at this time.

According to investigators, Henderson’s father legally purchased the gun. However, detectives say that Henderson’s motive for bringing a gun to school is unclear at this time.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident, and encourage anyone with information to call 240-773-6400.
