Springbrook High School Team Wins First Place in Keeping it Safe Video Competition

Montgomery County announced the winners of this year’s Keeping it Safe student video contest. The annual contest encourages teams from Montgomery County schools to create 30-second public service announcements on the risks and dangers associated with underage drinking. Middle and high school students are eligible to participate in the contest.

Founded in 1992, the Keeping It Safe Coalition is an alliance of County departments, local organizations and concerned residents that work to deter underage alcohol access and use. The student video contest was funded by the County Department of Police’s Traffic Division and the County Police Foundation.

The winning entries receive cash prizes for their school. In this year’s contest, 57 videos were submitted from 22 schools.

The first-place winner in the high school contest was a Springbrook team of James Diaz and Gabriel Diaz. The first-place winner in the middle school contest was a Julius West team of Jason Yu and Chris Min.

Winning school groups were announced through a virtual awards ceremony.

High School winners:

Springbrook High School in Silver Spring won first place prize of $1000. The team of James Dias and Gabriel Dias created the video.

Winston Churchill High School in Potomac took second place. Ida Chen, Allison Fan, and Kaitlyn Li with guidance from their school sponsor Debra Feldman created this video. The prize is $500.

Winston Churchill High School in Potomac won third place with this video created by Mariana Uribe. Prize: $250.

Middle School winners

First place went to Julius West Middle School in Rockville. The team of Jason Yu and Chris Min created this video. Prize:  $500

Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring took second place. The team of Asher Anantham and Eric Stewart created this video. Prize:  $300.

Neelsville Middle School in Germantown won third place with this video created by Simona Thomas. Prize:  $200
