Spirit Victorious Over Houston (VIDEO)
The Washington Spirit won a physical match against the Houston Dash to continue their unbeaten streak at home Saturday night.
The first 15 minutes of the game, saw both sides having equal opportunities but a shaky start for both, according to a news release from the team. The teams went into the locker room tied 0-0.
The Spirit’s attacking players including Crystal Dunn, Laura Del Rio, Angela Salem, and Johanna Lohman had constant pressure all second half, which resulted in the Spirit’s goal in the 56th minute, according to a release from the Spirit. Dunn applied high pressure to the Dash’s backline, taking the ball away and with her left foot shot a rocket in the top left corner, which careened off the post and into the back of the net. Dunn secured her seventh goal in 10 games and gave the Spirit a 1-0 lead, according to the Spirit.
The Spirit stayed strong and collected in the last five minutes to secure the 1-0 victory and earn three important points before traveling to play FC Kansas City on July 3 at 8 p.m.
