Soldier from Takoma Park Killed in Afghanistan (PHOTO)

The Department of Defense announced that a U.S. Army solider from Montgomery County was killed while on patrol in the Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan on Oct. 4th.
Officials say that Staff Sgt. Adam Thomas, age 31, of Takoma Park, died from injuries caused by an improvised explosive device. The incident is under investigation.
Thomas was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado. He served as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant and was deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. He’s been awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart along with several other decorations.
Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart issued the following statement on Facebook:
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Staff Sgt. Adam S. Thomas, 31, of Takoma Park, Maryland. He died Tuesday in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan. Officials say Thomas died from wounds sustained when his patrol triggered an improvised explosive device. Thomas was a medical sergeant deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. All of us in Takoma Park send our sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.”
