Snider’s Super Foods Will Be Sold to D.C. Grocery Store

Snider’s Super Foods, a popular grocery store on Seminary Road by Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, is in the process of being sold to Streets Market, a multi-grocery store operator headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Snider’s was founded in 1922 by Louis Snider, who first sold fruits and vegetables door to door from a team of horses and wagons in Kansas City, Missouri. The Silver Spring store opened in 1946.

Representatives from Streets Market said they plan to keep the name, staff, service and value “and all of the other aspects that have made Snider’s great.”

The store will continue to sell wines and craft beers as well as New York-style pickles and rotisserie chicken. Plans include expanding the organic and international foods selections.

“I will miss the business, the loyal customers and the employees, who have been like family to me. It has been a privilege to be part of the community,” said David Snider, 90, said in a press release.

Snider has been with the business for 75 years, when he first started serving customers behind the counter. There have been many changes since then, he noted, adding the store went from a meat-centered store with the slogan, “Meat that Can’t be Beat” to the current organic and prepared foods offerings.

On its website, Streets Market is described as “a local grocery store that offers a wide variety of organic, conventional, local, international and everyday practical goods all under one roof.”

It has nine locations in the Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia area.

Noted Snider, “It has been a privilege to be part of the community, and I wish Streets Market and its team much success over the coming years.”
