UPDATED: Metro’s Red Line Cleared of Reported Smoke
UPDATED, April 3, 7:30 a.m. – Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials say they cleared both the Glenmont and Wheaton stations to return to service.
According to MCFRS Spokesman Pete Piringer, a ‘standpipe valve’ in the tunnel resulted in water coming in contact with an insulator causing a light haze in the tunnel between the two stations.

WMATA said it expects to open both stations shortly.
ORIGINAL – Metro’s Red line between Wheaton and Glenmont stations is closed this morning as Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services investigate a report of smoke in the tunnel between the two stations.
According to MCFRS Spokesman Pete Piringer firefighters are trying to determine if it is a track or train car issue. Washington Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s website is recommending riders use the Forest Glen station as an option for their commute.

Red Line: Glenmont station is closed due to fire department activity. Bus service is requested between Glenmont and Wheaton.
