Small Business Awards Announced

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joined on May 24 with Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED) director Steve Silverman, Montgomery County Council president Nancy Navarro and some 300 local business owners and representatives at the Inaugural Montgomery County Small Business Awards luncheon.

The event, initiated and presented by DED, was organized to honor the important contributions all of the county’s 33,000-plus small businesses make and, in particular, to recognize winners in eight distinct award categories. The winners announced at the event include:

Bioscience Company of the Year – Creatv MicroTech, Inc.
Information Technology Company of the Year – WeddingWire
Innovation Network Company of the Year – SOL VISTA Consulting, LLC
Small Business of the Year (1-10 Employees) – SPAGnVola
Small Business of the Year (11-50 Employees) – Zane Networks, LLC
Small Business of the Year (51-200 Employees) – Apex Home Loans
Start Up Business Of the Year – Gator Ron’s Zesty Sauces & Mixers
Workforce Development Award – Merry Maids of Gaithersburg

“This select group of honorees represent the very best Montgomery County has to offer,” said Leggett. “We honor and thank them not just for being here but growing, supporting jobs and thriving here in Montgomery County. The creativity and innovation of Montgomery County’s entire business community – and our small businesses in particular – never ceases to amaze me.”

The luncheon celebration also featured a keynote address by Tammy Darvish, Executive Vice President of DARCARS Automotive Group as well as a business and networking expo.

The awards honor both business and individual winners chosen from more than sixty total entries across the eight categories and celebrate the overall positive contributions the county’s more than 33,000 small businesses make each and everyday to our local economy.

“Small businesses represent the heart of the Montgomery County’s economy,” said Silverman. “Ninety-six percent of our 33,000 local small businesses have fewer than 50 employees. Our Department and the County recognize and truly value the significant contributions this sector makes in supporting our local economy and today’s awards luncheon was our small way of saying ‘thank you’ for all you do.”
