During the next two weeks, Montgomery County police are adding speed monitoring equipment at 18 additional locations throughout the county.

According to police, the new community locations are the result of an assessment of the current system locations and community requests for additional enforcement areas. The following 18 locations are new for coverage by automated speed monitoring devices: 10400 block of Tenbrook Drive, 10900 block of Kingstead Road, 13500 block of Layhill Road, 14600 block of Homecrest Road, 17100 Bowie Mill Road, 17100 block of Redland Road, 18400 block of Cinnamon Drive, 19200 block of Father Hurley Boulevard, 19350 block of Father Hurley Boulevard, 18600 block of Montgomery Village Avenue, 19800 block of Montgomery Village Avenue, 22400 block of Dickerson Road, 24100 block of Ridge Road, 25800 block of Ridge Road, 3400 block of Laytonsville Road, 7000 block of Wilson Lane, 8100 block of Midcounty Highway and 8900 block of 16th Avenue.

The deployment of portable speed camera units (PCU’s) in these new locations will begin within the next two weeks. These cameras will be set to only flash at drivers when a violation occurs for the first week of the deployment, and the issuance of citations for violations will begin during the second week of operation. The Safe Speed program is adding the 10 new PCU’s to its current complement of speed camera equipment which includes 6 mobile vans, 10 PCU’s and 56 fixed pole sites.
