Up in the Sky: Warbirds, Parachutes in the Coming Days
Takoma Park Police say that between April 10 and April 16, the following aircraft are scheduled for flyover events:
- On Wednesday, April 11, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis will be conducting a series of three parachute jumps over the Naval Academy at various times.
The jumps, from a Cessna 182, will occur at 1:20 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
This activity has been coordinated in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Capitol Police, U.S. Park Police, Department of Defense, Pentagon Force Protection Agency, Transportation Security Administration and other NCR area agencies.
- On April 15 and 16, the British Royal Air Force will celebrate its 100th anniversary and partnership with the U.S. Air Force with two aviation events in the National Capital Region.
On Sunday, April 15, 17 vintage military aircraft will fly in to Dulles Airport between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., and will remain on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center (UHC) museum for the day. At 4 p.m., the aircraft will depart Dulles Airport and exit the area after conducting a flyover of the UHC museum.
- On Monday, April 16, at 10:55 a.m., a flyover of the U.S. Air Force Memorial, adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery, will be conducted. The flyover will feature 11 aircraft flying in five different formations consisting of a mix of vintage aircraft and modern military aircraft.
A majority of the aircraft will depart from Manassas, Virginia, east toward the Potomac River, then north along the Potomac River, over the USAF Memorial then resume flying northwest along the Potomac River towards Leesburg, Virginia.
This activity has been coordinated in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Capitol Police, U.S. Park Police, Department of Defense, Pentagon Force Protection Agency, Transportation Security Administration and other NCR area agencies.
