Six Adults Hospitalized After Deck Collapse in Germantown

Six adults were taken to a local hospital after a townhouse deck collapsed Sunday night in the 12400 block of Walnut Cove Circle in Germantown, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer said.

Nine people were evaluated in total. There were no serious injuries, Piringer said. He said the group was having a cookout with a grill when the deck collapsed. A building inspector will determine the circumstances involved, and Piringer said it was probably caused by a combination of overcrowding and lack of maintenance.

Piringer says residents should perform regular deck maintenance. The Department of Permitting Services (DPS) has a checklist of maintenance suggestions that should be done at least once a year.
