Silver Spring Transit Center Update
The Silver Spring Transit Center will not be opening this year.
In a memo dated May 29, Tim Firestine, Montgomery County’s chief administrative officer, has provided County Council President Craig Rice with an update on the status of remediation work at the Transit Center.
“After a series of meetings between the County, WMATA, Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB), and KCE Structural Engineers (KCE), the decision has been made to proceed with the County engineer’s (KCE) remediation approach,” wrote Firestine. “For purposes of design, permitting, and review of this remediation work, PB has agreed to KCE serving as Specialty Structural Engineer-of-Record.”
According to Firestine, this approach provides a solution that assures the public that the facility will be safe.
“It is anticipated that the remediation work will begin shortly and that the targeted completion date for the county’s work on the project remains the end of the calendar year.”
After the remediation work is complete, Metro will have to do its own inspections in order to prepare the facility for opening.
