Sharing is the name of the game for a local organization looking to connect the community.

Silver Spring Shares, a grassroots, volunteer-run organization, is working to bring people together to share skills and resources.

The organization recently held their first “ShareFest” at the Fenton Street Market in Silver Spring where organizers taught locals how to make seed balls, build a community garden, and compost in addition to hosting clothing and toy swaps and tips on how to start a babysitting co-op.

“Our goal was to get people talking about what they’re already sharing in Silver Spring and what else they’d like to borrow or share,” said Mary Murphy, an organizer with Silver Spring Shares.

The group is holding their next meeting on May 21 at 7 p.m. in the Creative Colony co-working space at 8121 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.

“We’ll be celebrating our ShareFest success and talking about next steps for Silver Spring Shares,” Murphy said.
