The 11th Annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 6 from 3 to 10 p.m. outdoors at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, pack a picnic or purchase dinner at the nearby restaurants. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans headlines the festival.

Founded in 1961, Preservation Hall features traditional New Orleans jazz rooted in the formative years of jazz. Creative Director Ben Jaffe carries on his family’s musical tradition – his parents, Allan and Sandra Jaffe founded the Hall and turned it into an internationally known cultural icon. In recent years, the band has performed and recorded with a wide array of musicians, ranging from groups like My Morning Jacket, Tom Waits, Merle Haggard, Pete Seeger, and the Del McCoury Bluegrass Band.

Veterans Plaza is located at the Silver Spring Civic Building, One Veterans Place, at the intersection of Fenton Street and Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring. Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation. The Plaza is located a few blocks from the Silver Spring Metro station. Public parking facilities are located at the corner of Cameron Street and Second, and at the corner of Colesville Road and Spring Street.

The following artists will perform at the festival:
