Sidney Katz Day in Gaithersburg (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman proclaimed Nov. 17 as Sidney Katz Day in Gaithersburg.

The proclamation took place at an open house and reception at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park in honor of Katz, the city’s former mayor who recently resigned after being elected to the Montgomery County Council.

The turnout for Katz was great.

There were local and state officials in the crowd, as well as dozens of city staffers, former staffers and Gaithersburg residents. Katz was recognized for his leadership and service and for his quick wit and sense of humor. Gaithersburg City Councilmember Cathy Drzyzgula said Katz was considered by many as an extended family member who could make a good day brighter and a bad day better.

Throughout the event, a slide show on the back wall documented Katz’s 38 years of service in Gaithersburg. He has served as Mayor since 1999.

Katz will be sworn in as the new District 3 Montgomery County Council member on Dec. 1.
