Siberian Dance at Strathmore (Video)
The Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia performs Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda. Stretching from the Arctic to the border of China, Siberia is a world of cultures—and this vibrant dance company brings influences from many of them to the stage—from leaping, twirling Cossack soldiers to brightly clad peasant dances drawn from centuries of tradition. Since its founding in 1960, the Krasnoyarsk Company has appeared in all parts of Russia, as well as in more than 60 countries around the world. It has won enthusiastic applause from audiences around the world through the vivid character portrayals, the musical movements, and fanciful choreography that transports audiences across the dynamic cultural landscape of the Company’s namesake.
The performance at Strathmore will feature 50 dancers performing 14 choreographed dances.
