Bethesda Film Fest

The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District announces the first Bethesda Film Fest, scheduled for 8 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Imagination Stage in downtown Bethesda. Bethesda Film Fest is produced by the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District.

Bethesda Film Fest will promote and honor the work of local and regional documentary filmmakers with a formal screening featuring up to five short documentary films by filmmakers from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. A documentary by a young filmmaker, under 18 years of age, may also be chosen.

The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District is accepting submissions for the inaugural Bethesda Film Fest. Selected filmmakers will be invited to show their documentary at the formal screening and will receive a $150 honorarium. Entries will be viewed by the Bethesda Film Fest selection panel, consisting of Angelica Das, Associate Director at the Center for Social Media at American University’s School of Communication; David Stern, Director of Digital Media at Imagination Stage, and members of the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District Board of Directors.

Filmmakers in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. are eligible to submit a short documentary film, 5-20 minutes in length. All topics are eligible. Films must have been completed within the last two years. Young filmmakers, under 18 years of age, may also submit work.

Filmmakers can apply by mailing a completed application and DVD including the documentary, 5-20 minutes in length, to Bethesda Film Fest c/o Bethesda Urban Partnership, 7700 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD 20814. Entries must be received by January 4, 2013.
