‘Shop with A Cop’ in Gaithersburg

Lakeforest D-Main Ruby TuesdayThe Gaithersburg Police Department is partnering with the Lakeforest Mall to host its first, “Shop with a Cop” program on December 18.

According to a city news release, Lakeforest Mall has donated gift cards so that children can purchase holiday gifts for themselves and their family members.

“This type of program provides children the opportunity to spend quality time with police officers from both agencies in a positive environment,” said Gaithersburg Police Chief Mark Sroka.

Ten police officers representing both the Gaithersburg and Montgomery County Police Departments are scheduled to be paired with a child for a holiday shopping excursion at Lakeforest Mall.

The children were selected from referrals to Gaithersburg’s Holiday Giving program. After shopping, participants will return to Red Robin restaurant to enjoy a meal and to meet Red, the Red Robin bird. While the children are dining, Explorers from the Montgomery County Police Explorers Post 1986 will wrap their gifts.

After the parents and children have filled up on burgers and fries, they will have an opportunity to have a photo taken with Santa, courtesy of the Gaithersburg Police Foundation.
