Severe Storms Keep Firefighters Busy: Lightning Strikes, Trees Down, Utility Worker Injured
Montgomery County firefighters were busy on Wednesday evening as severe thunderstorms rolled across the area and lightning lit up the sky for about two hours.
In the city of Gaithersburg, a lightning strike ignited a fire that destroyed a single family house in the Washingtonian Woods community.
During the stormy weather, there were reports of trees and wires down and there were power outages.
According to Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer, one utility worker was seriously injured while repairing a transformer in Leisure World.
