Seneca Valley falls to Potomac in State Semi-Finals

College Park, MD Thursday, March 9: Seneca Valley’s 3A State Championship runs ended in a semi-final loss to Potomac High School, of Oxon Hill MD 66-59.

Seneca Valley played their hearts out last at Xfinity Center on the campus of the University of Maryland, but just fell short in their losing effort.

The Screamin’ Eagles were down two at the end of the first quarter 16-14 and suffer a 5-0 run to begin the 2nd quarter and were quickly down 21-14. Points from behind the three point line seemed to be illusive throughout the contest with Seneca Valley be 4-18 from behind the arc. In the end Potomac took its largest lead late in the fourth quarter in what had been a closely contested game, the score was tied eight ties and the lead changed eleven times.

Scoring for Seneca Valley were #3 Brandon Simpson 26 points to lead all scorers on 10-15 shooting from the field, #5 Tyran Crawford 12 points, and #4 Kareem Matthews 10 points.

Seneca Valley finishes their season 24-1 with their heads held high. Coach Brian Murphy though disappointed with the outcome was positive on how hard his Screamin’ Eagles played last night.
