“See Them See You!” Winners (Video)
Congratulations to Blair High School freshman, Cullen Morris, for winning the “See Them See You!” text message contest promoting pedestrian safety to high school students in the Four Corners area of Silver Spring. Cullen will be presented with an iPad Thursday, Jun 7, 2012 at 12:15 p.m. at Montgomery Blair High School Cafeteria.
Morris was chosen in a random drawing out of more than 1,300 student entries to win the grand prize. In addition, 12 students received gift certificates to Chipotle during the month of May for correctly answering pedestrian-safety related questions. Participating students received rubber wristbands featuring pedestrian safety messages.
The text message contest was just one of the activities launched this spring at Blair High School. In April, students participated in a contest to have their eyes featured in a campaign that urges pedestrians to establish eye contact with drivers and look both ways before crossing the street with the theme “See Them See You!” Posters feature messages, such as: “Hey you, I’m looking at you!”, “Hey driver, I’m looking at you!”, or “Can you see me now?” The eyes of two winners, Hillary Yeboah, a junior and John Parsley, a senior, are featured. The banners and posters are currently displayed at the school.
A group of Montgomery Blair high school students were involved in developing the public education campaign aimed at teens. Collision data from the Four Corners area shows that those under 20 years of age and those over 50 have been involved in the most collisions, mostly during daylight hours.
This video featuring Department of Transportation’s Community Relations Manager, Tom Pogue, explains the contest.
