School System Unveils New Edison High School
School officials showed off the new Thomas Edison High School of Technology on Wednesday, where students can prepare for careers including culinary, health, information technology, cosmetology, construction and automotive industries.
The $119.7 million school in Silver Spring also includes a Junior Achievement financial center that will introduce personal budgeting to seventh-graders.
Many of the programs give students a leg up on careers. Dr. Keri Sykora, a nurse practitioner at Edison, described how the program helps students pursuing health careers.
“There are a lot of programs in medicine now that require you to have clinical experience. These students will already have it. They already have that checkbox done prior to applying for any upper level education, all before graduating high school,” Sykora said.
