(UPDATED) School Bus Fire in Silver Spring
UPDATED – A fire on a school bus in Silver Spring this morning is out and all passengers onboard were evacuated safely, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer.
Piringer reported the fire involved the engine but extended into other parts of the bus. According to Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Dana Tofig, students on the bus were headed to James Hubert Blake High School. He said those students got onto another bus and were taken to school. It is unclear how many passengers were on the bus.

ORIGINAL – Firefighters are on the scene of a school bus fire off of Briggs Chaney Road in Silver Spring. According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Pete Piringer, the fire is out but some lanes are blocked in the area near Great Oak Lane. A sand truck is being called to the scene because water used to put out the fire has created an icy situation there. No additional details were immediately available. It is unclear whether any students were on the bus at the time.
