School Bus Driver Makes His Final Ride ( PHOTOS & VIDEO)
It was the last day of school for Montgomery County Public School students and it’s the day that a beloved bus driver made his final route.
Behind the wheel of bus 4221, is Melvin Frizzelle, who is retiring after 20 years.
“It’s been a pleasure,” Frizzelle said. “I’m going to miss you so much […] I’m going to miss everybody.”
Dozens of Frizzelle’s coworkers, Sequoyah Elementary School staff, parents and students gathered in the school’s parking lot to cheer him on and say goodbye.
“I begged him to stay one more year and he said he can’t because it’s his time,” parent Andrea Dumas said.
Dumas, who organized the gathering, said he made mornings over the last seven years easier for her daughters.
“Mornings are not good at my house,” Dumas said jokingly. “As soon as they leave off for school, he pulls up and says, ‘Lila,’ always in the cheeriest mood in the world and it just helped her start her day.”
That feeling of excitement is something Aaron Glaser remembers as well.
Glaser, who is now a second grade math teacher at Sequoyah, said Frizzelle was also his bus driver almost 15 years ago.
“He always got me started the right way with a smile,” Glaser said. “He was really friendly and he’s still that way.”
While an emotional Frizzelle said his last goodbyes, he said he’s looking forward to retirement.
“I’m going to do things I haven’t done in life before [like] get up after 4:30 in the morning,” he said.
