School Board Members Say Hate Will Not Be Tolerated (VIDEO)

UPDATED Montgomery County school board member Rebecca Smondrowski, a Gaithersburg resident, describes recent hate-related incidents at local schools as “heartbreaking.”

Just this week, a swastika was found drawn on a tile in a boys bathroom at Quince Orchard High School, where Smondrowski’s daughter attends school.

“It has to stop,” said Smondrowski. “It breaks my heart.”

According to Smondrowski, the message that Montgomery County does not tolerate hate-based speech or behaviors has to come from the top of the district and filter down. She also said it’s important to identify who is responsible and to punish them.

New school board member Jeanette Dixon agrees that hateful acts can not be tolerated. In this MyMCMedia Extra video, below, Dixon suggests that more education may be the answer to ensure that all students get that message.
